Mr. Knotty came into this world on April 8th of 2000.  He was from a litter of 8 and his Mom was Can Ch. Heather’s Truly Raising Cain, Am MT/CGC (aka Candy).  His dad was Multi BIS/BISS Can/Am Intl. Ch. Heathers Nimrod Stew Unplugged CGC (aka – STEWIE).

I knew as soon as he was born that he would be staying here with us - He had  “IT”, whatever "IT” is!  He was a wonderful puppy totally enjoying life and everyone and everything around him was his oyster.

Then, unfortunately in July of 2000 we lost his Dad Stewie. It was a terrible blow to me and one which I had great difficulty overcoming.   My sadness showed in my everyday life and it greatly affected Knotty. Every time I looked at this beautiful puppy I started to cry - his eyes and his personality reminded me so much of his Dad.I had many opportunities to place him and never quite got around to doing it, but eventually I knew it was time. Knotty went to live in California with his brother Eric and his new Mom Lyn Sherman.

Knotty finished his American Championship quite easily and when Knotty was about 18 months old Lyn decided to put a professional handler on him. Ken Griffith entered the scene and a long and happy and successful career began.

Among Knotty’s achievements - 340 BOB’s; 145 group lst; 47 US all breed Best in Shows - Two ABC National Bloodhound Specialty Wins - several group placements at the Garden & Eukanuba, including a group 1 at each – and his big BIS win at The Eukanuba National in 2005. Knotty won the first two “Top Twenty” events offered by The American Bloodhound Club. Knotty also won the Canadian National Bloodhound Specialty twice and was also an all breed BIS winner on this side of the border.

“Knotty” the bloodhound, spent much of his career doing PR work - he appeared on the Animal Planet float in NY for the Macy’s Thanksgiving day Parade;  He was an invited guest at Bonhams Dog Show Auction, which was quite the fun time - trying to keep drool off the fancy little hors d’oeuvres. The media loved Knotty and he was frequently honored by numerous articles about him, including a two-page centerfold spread in the L.A. Times. He was the hit of Access Hollywood when he made a guest appearance. Knotty was honored as Athlete of the Week in January of 2006 by Sports Illustrated and Knotty being the clown that he is, climbed up in a chair, put his paw on the board room table and gave everyone his full attention, as if to say – ok, now the interview can begin. This was to the amusement of the ten people in the boardroom. In March of 2005 the Los Angeles County Commissioners honored Knotty by declaring a “Knotty Day in LA”.  He was invited to City Hall for the Day, had his own parking spot, attended a county commissioner’s retirement party and was presented with a plaque citing all the positive things that he had done for the county.

Knotty had a wonderful personality and a sound and stable temperament.  He made friends where he went  His dark rich liver color and his ability to float around the ring were indeed impressive.

Knotty unfortunately left us just a couple of weeks after his 8th birthday in April of 2008.   Thirteen months earlier he had been bitten by a rattle snake while out walking the hills with Lyn.  He put up a valiant battle but it wasn't enough.

He really was a once in a life time dog - he will be remembered not only for all his accomplishments in the show ring, but for just being Knotty!

He leaves behind many who loved him - especially his human and canine family of Lyn and Dick, his son Yeager, his brother Ditto, his friend Del and the cat Moo Moo.
